The main objectives of PMAYG are as follows:-
- Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana provides financial assistance by the Government of India to the weaker sections of the rural areas to build their own pucca house.

- Middle Income Group (MIG) – whose annual income is between 6 lakh to 18 lakh rupees.
- Low Income Group (LIG) – Those whose yearly income is between 3 lakh to 6 lakh rupees.
- Economically Weaker Section (EWS) – whose annual income is up to Rs 3 lakh.
